Full Truckload Shipping: What You Should Know

When it comes to shipping products domestically, it goes without saying that you want to choose the best option to meet the needs of both your organization and your customers.

Less than truckload and full truckload shipping are the two options most commonly available; however, trying to choose which one will best meet your needs can be hard. The decision really depends on the needs of your company, the type of freight you are shipping, and your budget, among other things.

Full Truckload Shipping: What You Should Know

To help make the decision easier for you, here’s a look at some important things that you should know about full truckload shipping.

More Carriers

If you want more of a selection when it comes to carriers, you’re going to want to opt for full truckload shipping. There are far more operations that provide full truckload shipping than there are that provide less than truckload shipping. More carriers means more flexibility for you.

The Rates are Negotiable

The rates for less than truckload shipping are usually highly structured and there isn’t much room for negotiating. However, with full truckload shipping, you will have the ability to negotiate. This may or may not be a good thing. For example, if you would prefer to know the rates up-front and don’t want to deal with haggling, less than truckload shipping may be a better choice. However, if you are a wheeler and dealer, full truckload may be a good option for you.

Know Your Shipment Needs

Several types of equipment are used for full truckload shipments, including enclosed flatbeds and dry vans. Some will work perfectly for your freight, while others won’t. Make sure you find out what type of equipment a full truckload carrier uses so that you can ensure your freight will arrive safely.
