Mitigate Rising Costs of Last Mile Delivery
The term last mile delivery describes the final chunk of the logistics chain where products are usually delivered to the destination from which they will be sold to customers. This is arguably one of the most important parts of logistics: If something goes wrong here, the entire logistics chain will suffer (and customers won’t receive their cargo). Every business should have their last mile delivery chain working as fast and efficient as they can: But this is getting harder considering the rising costs of transporting goods from one point to another. So how do you mitigate rising costs of Last Mile Delivery?

Ways to Mitigate the Rising Costs of Last Mile Delivery

Here are a few practical ways to mitigate the rising costs of last mile delivery.

Get Insured

Insurance means that the health of your drivers, the livelihood of your vehicles and the safety of your cargo are guaranteed. It also means that you’re either fully or partially covered for the financial losses that can arise from these incidents. Getting insured might seem like an unnecessary expense for a lot of people, but that’s until something happens that you could have used it for. How does it bring down costs? In the event of an emergency, you won’t have to pay out of your own pocket to get back on the road.

Vehicle Tracking

Vehicle tracking is recommended for any logistics company. Surprisingly, having each vehicle in your fleet equipped with a tracking system can help to bring your costs down by lowering what you have to pay for insurance premiums every month. Should something unexpected happen to one of your vehicles, tracking also ensures that the damage your business could have suffered is paid for by insurance.

Replace or Repair Delivery Vehicles

Delivery vehicles can be the pride and joy of your business – or it can be one of the factors that slows down the last mile delivery process the most. Vehicles not driving in peak condition are costing you more money than they are worth: Many older delivery vehicles still exist in the chain, just because the vehicle owners haven’t thought to replace them. Repair and service vehicles where needed: Replace them with faster, newer models where you can – and anywhere you notice that you’ve been repairing too much.

Finding Alternate Routes

Are you driving the cheapest route during last mile delivery? You’d be surprised at the amount of companies who are not. Finding an alternate route to complete the last mile can lead to the discovery of a faster, cheaper route that you didn’t know about before.
